Rugby and Solidarity: Under-18s Play for the Golden Thread League
The Unione Rugby Capitolina won the Rotary&Rugby 2026 Tournament featuring four under-18 teams. However, the more significant victory belonged to all the young players who took the field in a show of support for the Golden Thread League. This organization has long been dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and social reintegration of individuals who are deafblind or have other significant psycho-sensory impairments.
The sporting event, held at the Unione Rugby Capitolina's grounds in Rome, was organized by Franco Baglio and Alessandro La Penna from the Rotary Club Roma Nord, led by president Roberto Iacchetta. Their goal was to combine the values of sport with a tangible contribution to less fortunate youth.
Samuele Ascione of Primavera and Mattia Fabrizi of Capitolina were jointly named "Men of the Match." The day concluded with the customary "Third Half" gathering for all teams.
"Rugby instills fundamental values in young people: respect, fairness, teamwork, and consideration for others," stated organizers Alessandro La Penna and Franco Baglio. "Through Rotary&Rugby, we aimed to put these values to work for a crucial cause. We are particularly pleased to reach our seventh edition and continue turning a day of sport into an occasion for awareness and solidarity."
The Rotary Club Roma Nord extended its gratitude to the Primavera Rugby and Unione Rugby Capitolina clubs, specifically thanking Cesare Marrucci for his efforts in sports and logistical organization. Thanks also went to the four young athlete groups, coaches, families, volunteers from Rotaract Roma Nord, and everyone who contributed to the event and supported the Golden Thread League.
